Read to Know God, Not for a Goal

Study the Bible to know God. Not for a reading plan or a goal or to check a box. Read a little or read a lot but let it impact you. Let your bible reading teach you about the God who saved and delivered you. Let it show you the character of God and his love and kindness.

The Bible is like a feast. If you keep shoving it in without tasting/understanding you will miss the flavor of God. Sure you’ll get something out of it. You’ll get some nutrients but eventually you’ll stop absorbing it if you read to meet a time or word or chapter count. Instead of reading it to seek God.

Slow down, don’t worry about a schedule or checking a box. Read a verse or a story and dwell on, it read it a few times. Ask God to show you what he’s talking about. The beautiful thing about the Bible is that it’s deep and yet simple. You can read the same story for years and still learn something new each time. And yet we see God do the same thing over and over again, he speaks to his people and shows his goodness when they put their trust in him.

What is God teaching you through his word?

Your words were found, and I ate them,
and your words became to me a joy
and the delight of my heart,
for I am called by your name,
O Lord, God of hosts. -Jeremiah 15:16
