Peace and Rest that Surpass Understanding

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

—Exodus 33:14

When the Israelites left Egypt they didn’t know where they were going. It can seem the hardest to trust God when we don’t now where He’s leading us, but even in the times of uncertainty he will give us rest.

To have good rest we need to have peace. But its hard to have peace when we’re uncertain. But that’s the beauty of God’s peace it surpasses understanding. We don’t have to know all the answers and he can still give us his peace.

My husband and I have been through a lot of times of uncertainty, unemployment, multiple cross county moves, infertility. We don’t always know all the details but each time we trust God’s timing and that he had a plan and purpose, even if we don’t know what that plan is. Each time he gives us a peace when we put our trust in him.

Rest is part of that peace. When we trust God’s plan and his timing we can rest in knowing he’s got this. And that rest might be what we need in order to take care of what he’s got ahead for us.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.  Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:4-7
