Learning to walk

As we continue our journey through Colossians these verses brought a new perspective to me.

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

Colossians 3:20-21

If we as infants need love, care, to be taught and protected, why do we expect those that are new in their faith should automatically know how to walk, talk and act in their new found faith in God.

Our parents are meant to be there to love us, guide, and help us develop and we in turn are to do the same with our children. So since God is our heavenly father how much more should we heed his guidance and look to his love and care for developing our own maturity in our faith in him.

God wants us to obey our parents because they have life experience and they know that fire will burn us and that falling hurts, but they also know how to protect us from the pitfalls of life. In the same respect our parents are supposed to care for us with the same love and grace that God cares for us.

We should do the same with those new in their faith, love and encourage them to learn about God and develope their own relationship with him so that he can father them to be who he made them to be.
